The
era of manned space travel began with Yuri Gagarin more than
40 years ago. On April 12, 1961 he was the first person to
leave from the Russian space station in Baikonur on board
Vostok after much training at Star City. This training center
which now bears his name is internationally regarded as one
of the best facilities to prepare & condition those extreme
adventurers whose main goal is to survive hardest consitions
in space.
Since
1994, the beginning of the European-Russian space mission,
a special ceremony for astronauts and cosmonauts takes place
prior to their start into the earth's orbit - the crew receives,
as part of their official equipment, a FORTIS chronograph,
a reliable companion.
The
automatic chronograph movement, wound by the kinetic energy
of its wearer, ensures its independence from battery power
by means of a mechanism guaranteeing precise timekeeping,
even in extreme situations. Additionally, the chronograph's
extraordinary quality is attested by the embossed seal of
the Yuri A Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center, Star
City on its caseback.
