The term ‘regulator’
is traditionally reserved for precision timepieces
used to check the accuracy of domestic clocks. The
first examples of these wall clocks were weight driven
and appeared in Vienna in the 1820s. The popularity
of the style spread across Europe as a clock for general
domestic use, particularly with the development of
the spring driven movement.
